However, spending so much time together they develop feelings for each other but believe that confessing it first is a sign of weakness. They are now engaged in a ‘war’ to make the other person confess first and lose.

Howls Moving Castle (movie)
You can’t have an anime romance list and not include Ghibli studio’s masterpiece Howls Moving Castle. It’s a beautiful slow-paced romance between mild-mannered hatter Sophie and eccentric wizard Howl. The plot thickens when Sophie gets cursed by an evil witch who is jealous of her friendship with Howl. Both go out in a search to break the curse on their walking castle.

A Whiskers Away (movie)
It’s a simple movie with cats, magic, self-discovery, and aesthetic scenes which will take you back to the time when you had your first crush. In this coming-of-age movie, Miyo Sasaki finds herself crushing on her classmate Kento Hinode and tries to get closer to him by transforming her into a cat.

Toradora (series)
Who doesn’t love the good old-fashioned friends-to-lovers trope? Our leads Ruyiji and Taiga are wrongly misjudged for their appearance one labeled as a delinquent and the other as a pushover.
They form an unlikely friendship when they discover that both like each other best friend and decide to help each other confess their love to their crushes.

The Secret World of Arrietty (movie)
Another must-watch movie by Ghibli studio is about courage, secrets, and forbidden love. Arrietty is a 4-inch borrower who stays under a human residence and lives by ‘borrowing’ necessities from them. Her existence becomes endangered when she is discovered by a sick boy Shawn during one of her trips inside the house.

From Up on Poppy Hill (movie)
This is different from the rest of Ghibli’s fantasy work with less fantasy and a more realistic storyline. The plot revolves around 2 Yokohama teenagers Umi Matsuzaki and Shun Kazama who come together to save an old clubhouse from destruction during Tokyo’s 1964 Olympic preparation. It’s a light-hearted and feel-good movie about discovering love and facing your fears.

My Little Monster (series)
This is a wholesome romantic comedy between two social outcasts. Mizutani Shizuku is a hardworking student who would rather occupy herself by studying than interact with others. Her life changes when she meets Yoshida Haru a delinquent at her school, who takes a liking to her and insisted on becoming friends.

5 Centimetres Per Second (Movie)
From the same studio as Your Name and A Silent Voice, this film follows the life of Takaki Toono from his teenage days till adulthood and his love for his friend Akari. This film shows the honest and harsh realities of long-distance relationships and the hardships of adulthood.

Garden of Words (movie)

Teasing Master Takagi San (series)
This is a sweet and innocent series about small kids and a fierce battle of teasing.
