Fans of Korean webtoons have a new adaptation to look forward to. At its New York Comic Con panel on Thursday, Crunchyroll revealed that JH’s The Boxer will be turned into a television anime. The project is a collaboration between breccia, a newly established Japanese studio, and Korea’s Studio Jemi.
Breccia was founded by Muneki Ogasawara, a producer who is also one of the founding members of Kinema Citrus. The anime marks a high-profile early project for the young studio.
The Team Behind the Adaptation

Takehiro Kubota, known for the My Happy Marriage anime franchise, and Won Yeong Kang, a key animator and main animator on Cardfight!! Vanguard overDress and Cardfight!! Vanguard will+Dress, share directing duties. Masahiro Suwa, who worked on The Rising of The Shield Hero anime franchise, is handling character designs. Toshiya Ono, whose credits include 86, The Promised Neverland, and Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga, oversees the series and writes its scripts.
BLUE RIGHTS is serving as creative producer, while HAYATE Inc., a new anime production venture from Aniplex and Crunchyroll, is producing the show. LINE Manga, Crunchyroll, XTORM, and BLUE RIGHTS are listed as co-producers.
The voice cast includes Kōki Uchiyama as Yu, Kenshō Ono as Ryu, Tomokazu Seki as K, and Toshiyuki Toyonaga as J.
What The Boxer Is About
The story opens with Coach K, a legendary boxing trainer searching for one last prodigy. He spots a listless teenager standing motionless while bullies beat him, and he notices something the attackers miss: remarkable precision, grace, and sharp perception in the boy’s movements. When K offers to train him, the teen responds with an unsettling question, asking whether hitting people is actually fun.
The Boxer debuted on Naver Webtoon in Korea in 2019. As of September, it had passed 1.06 billion views worldwide, and it earned an award at the 2024 World Webtoon Awards. English readers can find the full series digitally on WEBTOON, and Ize Press publishes the print edition in English.
Ji-Hoon Jeong, who writes under the name JH, also created The Horizon, which WEBTOON released digitally in English and Yen Press published in print. That series won the Yellow Kid “Book of the Year” prize at Italy’s Lucca Comics & Games festival in November 2025. His newest webtoon, Umbilical, began in December and is his first new series in three years, following the end of The Boxer.
