Another popular webtoon is heading to the small screen. Crunchyroll used its New York Comic Con presentation on Thursday to confirm a television anime based on The Remarried Empress, created by HereLee and SUMPUL. The webtoon itself is adapted from Alphatart’s original web novel. TROYCA will animate the project, with a broadcast planned for next year.
The announced voice cast features Yōko Hikasa as Navier, Ryōhei Kimura as Heinrey, Tomoaki Maeno as Sovieshu, and Reina Ueda as Rashta.
Tetsuya Yanagisawa, whose past work includes Berserk of Gluttony and High School DxD, directs the anime at TROYCA. Akiko Inoue, who wrote for An Observation Log of My Fiancée Who Calls Herself a Villainess, supervises the series and writes the scripts. Jun Nakai of GATE and NieR:Automata Ver 1.1a is the character designer, and Yūki Fukazawa composes the score.
The Story and Its Global Reach

The Remarried Empress is a romantic fantasy centered on Navier, the flawless Empress of the Eastern Empire. When she learns that her husband, Emperor Sovieshu, intends to push her aside in favor of his mistress, she chooses to end the marriage. Rather than disappear quietly, Navier sets out to win back her standing by becoming an Empress in a different kingdom.
The webtoon has built an enormous readership, with more than 2.97 billion views worldwide and translations into 10 languages. It has an especially devoted audience in Japan. After a seven-year run, the main story wrapped up in January, though side stories are scheduled to resume this fall.
English readers can follow the series on WEBTOON, and Ize Press publishes the print version.
A Live-Action Version of The Remarried Empress Is Close Behind
The anime is not the only adaptation in the works. A live-action series based on the webtoon premieres on Disney+ and Hulu on November 4. Two new episodes will arrive each Wednesday until the finale on November 25, bringing the total to 10 episodes. With both versions on the way, the story is set to reach an even wider audience over the next year.
