According to news sources, HYBE, the music label behind BTS, has announced BTS plans to begin their military service. For the uninitiated, South Korea uses a “compulsory” military service for its citizens to contribute to duty enlistment. Under a conscription system to counterattack threats from North Korea, the home to BTS required all non-disabled men in the country to serve at least 18 months in the military by age 28.

Since BTS members, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, Jin, Suga, V, and Jungkook are in their early and late 20s, the military service rules also apply to them. However, with their contribution to the South Korean economy, and opportunities created by the group to represent Korea in different parts of the world, the fans expected the government to exempt BTS members from military service. However, this doesn’t seem to be the case, as the group has already started confirming their military enlistment procedure.
