Viz Media has recently introduced an innovative one-shot submissions portal under its esteemed Viz Originals line.

This platform is set to serve as a launchpad for aspiring writers, providing them with an opportunity to craft original stories.

Guiding this exciting venture is none other than Hisashi Sasaki, the former editor-in-chief of Shueisha’s iconic Weekly Shonen Jump magazine.

Sasaki’s years of experience and industry insights will be instrumental in mentoring and refining the submissions selected for publication.

Viz Originals: Submissions are open for writers and manga artists

Once polished to perfection, these successful one-shots will find their digital home, thanks to Viz Media’s state-of-the-art publishing platform.

However, the journey doesn’t stop there. These outstanding creations have the potential to transcend the digital publication, possibly culminating in the acquisition of intellectual property rights by the company.

This could pave the way for adaptations into compelling anime series and the production of an array of consumer products, immersing fans even deeper into the world of Viz Originals.

The inception of Viz Originals took place in 2019, heralding a new era of collaboration between Viz Media and manga-inspired creators.

This graphic novel imprint provided a fertile ground for fresh, untapped stories to flourish, solidifying Viz Media’s commitment to pushing boundaries and exploring new horizons within the manga industry.

Viz Originals and Viz Media: Catering services to manga fans

In yet another announcement, Viz Media recently revealed its digital manga service, Viz Manga.

This user-friendly platform, which made its debut on May 9, is a treasure trove for manga enthusiasts.

Boasting simultaneous English releases of ongoing manga from Shogakukan for the very first time, alongside a curated selection of timeless classics, Viz Manga is a haven for both the seasoned manga connoisseur and the budding enthusiast.

With over 10,000 chapters from the stables of both Shogakukan and Shueisha, Viz Manga promises an unparalleled reading experience.

It is important to note that this service is currently accessible exclusively in the United States and Canada, offering readers a monthly subscription at a nominal cost of US$1.99. Meanwhile, Viz’s dedicated Shonen Jump service continues to be available as a separate offering for avid fans of the genre.

As the Viz Originals line expands, fans can look forward to a diverse array of stories that were previously hidden from mass audiences.

With Hisashi Sasaki at the helm, guiding these budding talents toward greatness, the future of American manga has never looked brighter.
