After years of waiting, PSYREN is finally making the jump from manga to television anime. The supernatural action series based on Toshiaki Iwashiro’s manga is scheduled to premiere on October 5, 2026, with Crunchyroll bringing the adaptation to viewers outside Japan.
The story begins with high school student Ageha Yoshina discovering a mysterious red phone card in a public telephone booth. The seemingly ordinary object soon becomes connected to something far more disturbing.
Ageha’s childhood friend, Sakurako Amamiya, suddenly disappears, and the mystery surrounding her disappearance leads him toward rumors about a secret organization known as Psyren.
What begins as an attempt to find his missing friend eventually pulls Ageha into a dangerous alternate world. There, he and others become trapped in a deadly game and discover supernatural abilities known as PSI.
When Does PSYREN Anime Premiere?
PSYREN will begin airing in Japan on October 5, 2026.
The first episode is scheduled for 11:00 p.m. JST on TOKYO MX and BS11, with Sun TV listing the premiere at midnight under its Japanese late-night schedule. Crunchyroll has also confirmed the anime for streaming.
The series is being produced by SATELIGHT, with Katsumi Ono directing the adaptation.
New Cast Members Join the Anime
The recently announced additions to the cast include Yuhko Kaida as Matsuri Yakumo and Nobuyuki Hiyama as Dolki.
They join the previously announced cast, which includes Shunsuke Takeuchi as Hiryu Asaga, Soma Saito as Oboro Amamiya and Yukihiro Nozuyama as Kabuto.
The anime’s promotional material has also introduced CLAN QUEEN’s song “WARNING!!” as the opening theme.
A Long-Awaited Adaptation
Iwashiro’s PSYREN originally ran in Weekly Shonen Jump and became known for combining supernatural powers, mystery and battle-action elements.
The new anime gives the series an opportunity to introduce that world to viewers who may have never encountered the original manga.
For longtime PSYREN readers, however, the biggest attraction may simply be seeing Ageha, Amamiya and the mysterious Psyren world finally brought to life in animated form.
PSYREN premieres in Japan on October 5, with Crunchyroll streaming the series internationally.
