2K Games has officially rolled out a new NBA 2K25 update for June 2025, introducing a range of tweaks and improvements across various game modes. Titled Update 8.0, this latest NBA 2K25 patch is designed to prepare the game for the upcoming launch of Season 8, which kicks off on Friday, June 27 at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET / 3 PM GMT.
Originally released in September 2024, NBA 2K25 introduced major advancements to enhance realism and gameplay depth. One of the standout features was the implementation of ProPLAY technology, which brought in over 9,000 animations sourced directly from real NBA footage, significantly improving player movement and on-court authenticity.
In addition, the game revamped its dribbling system, improved defensive mechanics, and introduced new MyCAREER and MyTEAM experiences.
NBA 2K25 Update: Enhanced Gameplay and Visuals in The City and Proving Grounds
With this new NBA 2K25 update, several key game modes are receiving much-needed polish. In The City, players can now expect smoother gameplay thanks to enhanced stability, performance, and visual upgrades. Notably, the Proving Grounds 5v5 mode now offers significantly increased VC rewards, providing a stronger incentive for players to compete and progress.
MyCAREER continues to evolve, having already replaced the acceleration stat with a new agility stat and introduced a stamina system linked to Gatorade training sessions. Meanwhile, MyTEAM reintroduced the popular Auction House and debuted a new competitive mode called Showdown earlier in the game’s cycle.
Improvements to MyNBA, The W, and Court Designs
Update 8.0 also addresses various stability and quality-of-life issues in MyNBA, MyNBA Online, and The W. These include:
- Stability fixes across multiple modes
- Updated referee uniforms in WNBA games
- Addition of “Ally” and “No Space For Hate” logos on all WNBA courts
- Updated sponsor patch for the Atlanta Dream
- Correction of a bug in The W that caused the game to freeze during team selection
- Visual improvements to the Golden State Valkyries’ court floor to better reflect its real-life design
What’s Next for the Franchise?
This NBA 2K25 patch continues the developer’s trend of steady post-launch support, aiming to maintain a refined and immersive experience. The next installment in the franchise, NBA 2K26, is expected to arrive in early September 2025. If past patterns hold true, players can anticipate upgraded visuals, enhanced gameplay mechanics—especially on the defensive end—and a deeper, more engaging MyCAREER storyline.
For now, with Season 8 on the horizon, the NBA 2K25 update ensures that players have a more polished court to play on and new reasons to jump back into the game.
