Romance and assassination make an unusual pair, but Firefly Wedding is betting the combination works. The anime adaptation of Oreco Tachibana’s manga will debut on Crunchyroll on October 9 at 9:00 a.m. PT, giving fans a firm date to mark on the calendar.
Subtitled episodes will be available across North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, the CIS, and the Indian Subcontinent, so the audience is global from day one.
The Story Behind Firefly Wedding
The series centers on Satoko, a nobleman’s daughter who seems to have everything going for her. She is beautiful, comes from a respected family, and has reached the ideal age for marriage. There is one catch: she is seriously ill and has very little time left. She hopes to secure a marriage that restores her standing in her family’s eyes before she dies.

Those plans fall apart when a mysterious assassin named Shinpei is sent after her. Cornered, Satoko makes a desperate gamble and proposes to the man who came to kill her. The twist is that Shinpei takes marriage vows far more seriously than she expected. For him, “until death do us part” is a promise to be kept to the letter.
A Finished Manga to Read First
The source material has already wrapped up. Tachibana’s manga ran from January 2023 to August 2026 and was collected in 12 volumes, with VIZ Media handling the English release. Readers who want a head start can catch up before the anime gets going.
A solid staff is attached to the project. Takahiro Kamei, known as chief director of Urusei Yatsura, directs at Studio David Production. Yuko Kakihara, who worked on The Apothecary Diaries, handles scripts and series composition. Yukiko Aikei, whose credits include Magical Girl Raising Project, designs the characters, and NOGRID composes the music.
With a morbid premise, a ticking clock, and a groom who treats his vows as a life sentence, Firefly Wedding looks set to be one of the more unusual love stories of the fall season.
