The Dragon Ball franchise marked its 40th anniversary with a major reveal. During the “Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri!” event held on Sunday, organizers announced a new television series titled Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, set to air on Fuji TV this fall.

The project revisits one of the franchise’s most iconic arcs, but with a new overhaul that goes far beyond a simple rebroadcast.

Veteran voice actor Kōichi Yamadera will reprise his role as Beerus, the God of Destruction.

Yamadera appeared on stage at the event to personally confirm his return, reinforcing the continuity between this series and the original Dragon Ball Super run.

An Enhanced Rebuild of Dragon Ball Super

Producer Akio Iyoku explained that work on the Beerus TV Anime began several years ago. Rather than serving as a sequel, the series is described as an “enhanced” edition of Dragon Ball Super, featuring a reconstructed narrative and extensive visual updates.

According to the official announcement, the project includes newly created cuts, revisions to existing scenes, and a complete re-rendering of all footage. The anime also features freshly recorded dialogue, added music, updated sound effects, and a fully rebuilt story structure.

The production team emphasized that this enhanced edition uses the latest visual techniques to increase impact and immersion, particularly during battle sequences.

The goal is to present Akira Toriyama’s original concepts and worldbuilding with greater accuracy and polish.

The staff confirmed that Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is scheduled to begin airing in Fall 2026, positioning it as a fresh starting point for the television anime.

The God of Destruction Awakens

The story is set several years after the defeat of Majin Buu, during a brief period of peace on Earth. That calm is shattered when Beerus awakens from a long slumber. Even the Kai and Supreme Kai, fully aware of his power to erase entire planets, react with fear to his return.

As rumors of a Saiyan who defeated Frieza reach Beerus, his attention turns to Goku. Beerus soon appears on Earth, placing the planet in immediate danger. What follows is a universe-shaking confrontation between the God of Destruction and Goku alongside his allies, a conflict that threatens cosmic balance itself. This retelling places heavy emphasis on scale, tension, and spectacle, aligning with the stated focus on enhanced battle presentation.

Dragon Ball Super’s Ongoing Expansion

The original Dragon Ball Super anime premiered in July 2015 and ran for 131 episodes until March 2018. It streamed simultaneously via Funimation and Crunchyroll, with Funimation releasing home video editions. The English dub debuted on Funimation’s streaming service in December 2016 and later aired on Adult Swim’s Toonami block in January 2017.

The anniversary event also revealed Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol, a separate anime continuing from the “Universe Survival Arc.” That series adapts the “Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc” from Toyotarō’s Dragon Ball Super manga.

With the Beerus TV Anime and additional projects underway, Dragon Ball Super continues to expand its animated legacy while revisiting pivotal moments with renewed ambition.
