The Sharingan is arguably the strongest basic dojutsu of all time. The Uchiha clan’s prized treasure allows users to place their opponents under hypnosis, see the slightest movements to the highest degree, and partially see the future.
However, wielding this Kekkei Genkai to the highest caliber of performance and evolving it further into its advanced forms – the Mangekyou Sharingan and the Rinnegan – requires monstrous power and intelligence. So, who are the best users of this insane Jutsu? Here are the top 10 users of the Sharingan in the Naruto-verse!
This article will cover some of the best Sharingan users in the series, including various summaries of their backstories and a couple of their best feats.
SPOILERS, SPOILERS, 《EVERYWHERE》. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!
Here are some notes, though:
- Since the Sharingan was passed down to the Uchiha clan, most of the featured characters will be Uchihas.
- Also, there’ll be some non-Uchiha characters who implanted the Sharingan to utilize its abilities.
- Finally, this list will follow no particular order: it’s difficult to tell who would win in multiple cases.
Let’s go!
Top 10 strongest Sharingan Users in Naruto
Fugaku Uchiha
In his hay day, Wicked Eye Fugaku was considered to be the strongest Uchiha of his generation and was believed to be the best Hokage candidate by his followers.
During the Third Great Ninja War, Fugaku, alongside Minato Namikaze, was highly feared by opposing forces. Although unconfirmed, many fans believed he received a run-on sight command due to his strength. According to legend, his Fire Release: Fire Ball Jutsu was so huge that it was considered “massive,” a status even the most refined elites struggled to achieve. His clan members considered him powerful enough to be appointed as the head of the Konoha Military Police Force, as well as the head of the clan.
Despite the mechanics behind his largely unknown Mangekyou Sharingan abilities, some of them were shown to Itachi in episode 455, where he stated verbatim, “I can control the Nine-Tails with Mangekyou Sharingan.” Immediately after this scene, Fugaku showed him a clear vision of what would occur if the Uchiha clan knew about his MS: they would kidnap Naruto, summon Kurama, and destroy the Hidden Leaf Village. This short scene implies the absolute ability of foresight. Unfortunately, that is all we know about his abilities.
Nonetheless, Fugaku is considered to be one of the strongest Sharingan users in history, even receiving massive respect from Itachi, which speaks volumes.
Shisui Uchiha
Well, he barely received any screen time, but this guy’s eyes were so astonishingly powerful that they could’ve changed Naruto’s plot decades after he died!
He might’ve received a run-on-sight command, placing him in the same caliber as Minato and Fugaku… at the age of 16!
Shisui of the Body Flicker is world renowned for his Body Flicker Technique, a teleportation jutsu that he performed so fast that sensory-type shinobi could hardly locate him.
Furthermore, Shisui could conjure Susanoo, as well as Fire Release: Great Fireball technique and summoning Jutsu. However, his greatest trump card had to be his Mangekyou Sharingan‘s Kotoamatsukam, a method named after five gods.
This Jutsu can cast a Genjutsu so subtly that it would be impossible to tell if you’re in one. It gives the victim false memories they cannot discern from reality while they believe they usually live.
This Jutsu could change everything! Because one can’t tell they’re in the Genjutsu at all, they wouldn’t be able to break out of it – and it doesn’t even need eye contact to be cast.
But, there’s a catch – it could only work once after ten years of activation from each eye, so Shisui couldn’t just use it if he wanted to.
Unluckily for Shisui, he lost both eyes before falling to his death, with one being stolen by Danzo and the other being given to Itachi. With eyes like that, even governments would fight tooth and nail to get them.
Danzo Shimura
Everybody hates Danzo with a passion. This brilliantly written scumbag has committed atrocities so horrible that it feels weird to call him Tobirama’s former subordinate.
Danzo Shimura worked as Lord Hiruzen’s shadow Hokage while leading the Leaf Village’s Root Foundation. He was considered one of Konoha’s strongest shinobi, yet no one dared to punish him for going out of hand, including Hiruzen Sarutobi, the Third Hokage.
Okay, his Wind Release manipulation and Shuriken mastery put adult Naruto to shame. Still, this guy had a dreadful secret under his sleeve: 10 Sharingan on his right arm, as well as Shisui’s MS. The arm was gifted to him by Orochimaru and was honed on Shin Uchiha before it was surgically implanted onto Danzo.
This arm was also injected with a healthy helping of Hashirama’s cells, which came with a HUGE effect: the Kotoamatsukami’s cooldown timer was reduced from 10 years to 1 day. Because Danzo was dumb, he forgot to add Hashirama cells before implanting the eye, which could’ve provided an ‘infinite’ healing factor. Therefore he could only use it sparingly.
Either way, Danzo had enough power to alter history altogether. So just how the heck did he lose to Sasuke?
Shin Uchiha
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LbcuQdVF4CI
This dude came out of nowhere as Orochimaru’s failed experiment, self-proclaimed himself as an Uchiha, and blamed Sasuke for Itachi’s death. He even had the gall to go even further to call him a disgrace to the Uchiha name – this guy’s delusion scares me! The audacity…*unintelligible grunting*
As much as it pains me to say this, his Mangekyou Sharingan, strategic planning, and influence over his clones make him a truly formidable adversary to face. At one point in Boruto, he gave Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha a run for their money.
His primary MS ability remotely controls weapons and objects brandished with his mark. His anatomical knowledge is outstanding, and he can perform surgery on himself as long as his MS is active. Add this to several clones with Sharingan; then you’ll have Shin, an egotistical maniac.
Indra Otsutsuki
Indra Otsutsuki is Hagoromo’s first-born son and the first to develop the Mangekyou Sharingan.
Being the direct descendant of the Sage of Six Paths, Indra was severely powerful and used said power to rule people with fear rather than empathy.
As the progenitor of Mangekyō Sharingan, his abilities were indeed on a scale of their own. His Susanoo and Blaze Release were powerful enough to pulverize mountains, and Indra’s Arrow, his ultimate technique, was and is one of the most destructive offensive Jutsu in history.
His raw intelligence and understanding of chakra precede that of Ashura Otsutsuki, his brother and successor of the Sage of Six Paths’ teachings.
Considering these points combined, it’s not surprising that he’s on this list, to begin with. However, whether he’s the best is an entirely different argument from some of the following entries on this list.
Itachi Uchiha
Itachi’s iconic character and plot twist has been etched into the history of anime as one of the most ground-breaking events of all time.
At the age of 10, Itachi cleared the Chunin exams and set the second fastest record in the Forest of Death, all alone. Later, at the age of 11, he was accepted into the ANBU Black Ops and is the youngest shinobi ever to do so.
A while later, he’s commanded to assassinate his clan by Danzo Shimura due to its potential threat to the village. After the assassination, he fled the village and joined the Akatsuki, a mercenary group of S-rank shinobi with the ability to take down Tailed Beasts individually.
To call him a battle genius would be a severe understatement, yet there’s more. As daunting as he seemed, Itachi had a chakra illness and couldn’t even use his abilities to their highest capacity. And they were absolutely insane.
The Midnight Crow had Fire, Water, Yin, and Yang Release, as well as the best Shurikenjutsu in his clan. His Mangekyou Sharingan, however, could put even Indra Otsutsuki to shame. His MS was Tsukuyomi – the third best Genjutsu in the series – and Amaterasu, an ability given to Sasuke after he (Sasuke) implanted Itachi’s eyes into his, forming the second Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan in history.
Susanoo is usually considered the perfect defense, so what happens when you stack another excellent defense on top of that? In his left Susanoo arm lies the Yata Mirror, which can nullify any spiritual or physical attack. In his right-hand lies the Sword of Totsuka, which immediately seals anything it touches.
“With this combination, Itachi is invincible.” ~Black Zetsu.
Kakashi Hatake
How does Kakashi eat with his mask on? Anyways, Kakashi sensei is a prodigy strong enough to rival the likes of Might Guy, who, at his peak, could force ‘the’ Madara Uchiha to kneel before him. Kakashi of the Sharingan was so intellectually gifted that he passed the Chunin exams as a 6-year-old and was admitted into the ANBU at the age of 13.
Kakashi is able to manipulate all nature transformations except for Wind Release. However, his natural chakra natures are Earth Release and Lightning Release. However, during a mission gone wrong in the Third Great Shinobi War, Obito Uchiha gave Kakashi his Sharingan as a parting gift, which he brandished in full effect.
He also knows how to use the summoning Jutsu. Upon learning how to use the Sharingan with reasonable stability, Kakashi perfected his signature move, Lightning Release: Lightning Blade, a lightning chopping Jutsu, and he could copy just about any Jutsu, as long as it was not a Kekkei Genkai.
As time passed, Kakashi was able to activate the Mangekyo Sharingan, which can rip and teleport ANYTHING with its unique technique, Kamui. Initially, he’s only able to use it four times a day before going unconscious, but he uses it much more frequently in the Fourth Great Ninja War.
During Team 7’s final clash against Kaguya Otsutsuki, Obito imparted one final gift from the Pure Lands (heaven) to Kakashi – his second Sharingan. With both Sharingan in his possession, Kakashi was able to use Susanoo, which can utilize Kamui Shuriken, which can warp meteor-sized objects with relative ease. Kakashi became so strong that he became equal to, or even more potent than, Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha, two pivotal powers in the war.
In the aftermath, he lost the Sharingan at the cusp of the Shinobi revolution. He stopped using Chidori due to the loss of Sharingan. However, he was still powerful enough to be appointed as the Sixth Hokage of the Leaf Village, with some kickass Purple Lightning. So, to assume that he’s within the top 5 wouldn’t be out of the question.
Obito Uchiha
Obito is one of the most controversial characters in Naruto’s history. Even so, this man can throw hands.
Remember when he gave Kakashi his Sharingan before he died? Yeah, about that, he survived. He was taken to Madara Uchiha’s hideout, where he was indoctrinated into casting Infinite Tsukuyomi.
Around 13, this man was exchanging blows with Minato Namikaze and incited a full-fledged attack on Konohagakure by placing Kurama, the Nine-Tails, in Genjutsu. A bit later, it is confirmed that Obito is Akatsuki’s true leader, which proves that he’s probably the strongest S rank in the group. Furthermore, he could use Kamui without activating his Mangekyou Sharingan, which didn’t make much sense at the time but was quite interesting.
Later in the 4th Shinobi War, Obito could access the Rinnegan, launching him to a new level of strength. With this Dojutsu, Obito mastered all fundamental nature transformations and Yin and Yang releases. Within a couple of hours, he became the 10 Tails Jinchuuriki and was probably the strongest shinobi in the world, at least for a short time.
Within this short period, he had enough power to mold the world according to his will.
If that isn’t powerful, I don’t know what is.

Sasuke Uchiha
As conflicting as his character was in Naruto and Naruto Shippuden, Sasuke has gained adoration from the fandom in Boruto. *ahem* (Some people still hate him, though) *ahem*
However, don’t let this distract you from the fact that Sasuke’s Dojutsu abilities are some of the best in the series. Around the end of Shippuden, this man had a Rinnegan, an Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan with Amaterasu, unfathomable kēnjutsu (sword fighting) complimented by a blade of Kusanagi and mastery over all basic chakra natures, as well as space-time.
Usually considered a prodigy, he was impeccably talented during his academy days. Sasuke was just a paper’s edge away from beating Gaara, a jonin level duelist in the chunin exams, before the Konoha crush and going rogue.
A few years later, Sasuke endured a nearly fatal match against Deidara, unconvincingly fought Itachi to the death, and beat the shtick out of Danzo.
When the Fourth Great Ninja War left everyone gasping for air, Sasuke played a significant role in wrapping up the war against the almighty Kaguya Otsutsuki.
Currently, Sasuke serves as Naruto’s shadow Hokage, and he’s unfortunately nerfed to the depths of Hades… *sigh.
Madara Uchiha
This man is a menace to society.
I mean, it’s Madara.
From orchestrating the Fourth Great Ninja War to enacting the Infinite Tsukuyomi, Madara Uchiha has repeatedly shown his absurd political and physical prowess.
During his earlier days, he exchanged blows with his lifelong rival, Hashirama Senju (the god of shinobi), and produced nuclear-like explosions in the process. His godlike speed cemented him as one of the fastest shinobi of all time.
Amplify this with great mastery over ninjutsu, taijutsu, and the Sharingan. Then you have a monster on your hands. With his natural death near his doorstep, he attained the Rinnegan. Right before the Fourth Great Ninja War climax, everyone froze upon seeing this man rise from the dead – EVERYONE – and reasonably so.
Shortly after his reincarnation, he annihilated an entire platoon with his bare fists. He produced a Fire Release: Great Fire Annihilation so massive that it required an elite group of water-style ANBU level Jonin – the highest rank beneath the village council – to quiet it down. Oh, he summoned not one but TWO METEORS to overwhelm all Five Kage.
Insane! And he did that while weakened?! A couple of fights later, he became the 10 Tails Jinchuuriki and one of the strongest shinobi of all time, rivaling or surpassing Hagoromo Otsutsuki, the Sage of Six Paths.
And there you go! Top 10 Sharingan Users in the Naruto-verse.
Woah, hold up! Wait a minute! Check out some of our content, yeah?
