Edens Zero: Why Is The Art Style Similar?

ABOUT EDENS ZERO

Edens Zero is a manga series written and illustrated by Hiro Mashima, a Japanese manga artist.  Published on the 27th of June 2018 by Kodansha in its popular Weekly Shonen Magazine, the manga currently holds 16 volumes consisting of 154 chapters. The manga later received an anime adaptation by the studio J.C. Staff. It aired on the 11th of April 2021, with 19 episodes to date.

THE PLOT

With a space setting, the series grabs fantasy and adventure together, spiced up with the power of friendship, similar to Mashima’s previous works. The story revolves around Shiki Granbell, as he goes on an adventure with his friends to find the goddess of the cosmos, ‘Mother.’ Mashima, in one of his interviews, states that Edens Zero would continue the plot with friendship, family, and fights from Fairy Tail. Although it might change eventually as the mystery of the character ‘Mother‘ is revealed.

WHY IS THE ART STYLE SIMILAR?

The art style of Edens Zero is similar to Fairy Tail and Rave Master.

YES, you read it right. The art style Mashima follows in his works is similar, doing things his way as a mangaka, a manga artist. You can find both positive and negative comments regarding his trend, but, of course, everyone has an opinion.

Fans accept ‘Eden’s Zero’ and ‘Fairy Tail’ are elements of a similar universe. Truly, it’s not difficult to perceive any reason why. Since many characters have comparative plans, fans accept that both mangas are essential for a bigger universe Mashima is making.

One delicate topic of decision that often pops up is plagiarism. As Mashima continues with the same art style in his next manga, it is NOT plagiarism and is Mashima’s original art style, specific to him.

Besides that, his art style has only improved throughout the years.

And in case I left you wondering, a few mangakas follow a similar trend.

Thank you for following this far!
