Yuri genre is one of the more underrated genres which is getting more popular these days. Here the plot basically has the girl meets girl story in various settings. Most times it is the recipe for comedy or slice of life but is certainly not limited to that. Here is a list of must-watch yuri anime.
Bloom Into You
If you are in for a typical romance that does not exactly qualify as a slice of comedy, this one is for you. Here the main protagonist Yuu has lost the charm of love after being confessed to for the first time. In spite of having been an avid fan of shoujo, she is disillusioned. But this changes when she gets her very second confession from Touko, who is also the school council president.
Strawberry Panic
One of the first yuri anime to be out, Strawberry Panic can be considered a classic. It has the setting of a school with the main character Nagisa Aoi transferring into it. Shizuma is the popular girl in the academy who ends up taking a liking to her. The school romance has the usual elements of drama, school politics, heartbreaks, betrayals, and anything and everything. Join in for the fun ride.
Yuru Yuri
This one is fun yuri with the main character Akari, who could not be considered as the main character. No seriously, she might as well be not existent. The premise of the show revolves around the “Amusement Club” which is an after-school club with the self-explanatory purpose. Yes, the goal of all the members who also happen to be Akari’s upperclassmen is to primarily amuse themselves.
Sakura Trick
This is one of the classic yuri anime with an interesting twist. Here there are two best friends Haru and Yuu, who had known each other for a long time. Everything is going high-school with the usual set of problems brought by school but one incident changes everything for them. Their shared kiss in the classroom is just the precursor for a good romance and heartfelt moments.
Inugami San to Nekoyama San
It is an essential anime where the two main characters represent a cat and dog. And no, Inugami is a cat lover while Nekoyama loves dogs though their tendencies indicate otherwise. Their antics together are just as adorable to watch as are cute animal videos. Give this anime a quick watch as each episode is only three minutes long. As such a season can be completed within a matter of hour.
Citrus
If you are into step-sister relationships, we just have the thing for you. The story follows Yuzu who moves to a new place when her mother remarries. Her dreams of having a romantic endeavor get shattered when she comes to know that she gets enrolled in an all-girls school. On top of that, she gets entangled with the uptight student council president on the very first day… who turns out to be her stepsister.
Netsuzou Trap
Netsuzou Trap deals with some complicated issues. Two best friends Yuma and Hotaru have been childhood friends. Things get complicated when Yuma gets a boyfriend because Hotaru makes a move on her resulting in Yuma going through psychological trouble. In a way, Yuma is trapped between cheating on her boyfriend or pursuing true love over the course of the series.
Aoi Hana
It is the sweet story of two friends Fumi and Akira who separated during childhood. Later they meet as high school freshmen but they are unable to connect to each other on the same level as when they were kids. In the course of high school, they find themselves growing closer than they ever were. The plot is touching and will certainly flip your heartstrings.
Akuma No Riddle
This one is the poster anime for yuri action with just the plot you’ll love. Haru Ichinose is an unsuspecting character who is the target of assassination by a group of participants. The catch is that all of the assassins will get only one chance for the same. But what happens when the killer becomes the protector as is the case of Tokaku Azuma? You’ll have to watch the anime to find out.
Mikagura School Suite
The yuri anime with a perverted female lead. Yes, here the main character Eruno Ichinomiya enters high school with the cutest girl uniforms and intends to follow girls. She goes to the extent of following one of the girls to a high school club. This is just the beginning of her becoming part of various clubs and participating in competitions. The fun continues with her exploits along with other girl-crazy high school guys.
